Why I haven't "blogged" in a LONG time....

I have heard A LOT lately on why I haven't updated my blog...well truth be told, I'M BUSY. Back in the day, I used to have loads of time. I woke up every day, checked on Noreen, and sat around just WAITING. Waiting for graduation, waiting for motivation to do my homework, waiting for James to come home, waiting for Noreen to get ready, waiting for nap time, waiting for a phone call, etc. Ok, mainly I really was just waiting for a baby. I found that the more time I spent waiting, the more time I seemed to have.

However, now I have a baby .
Now, I take one little look at the sweet face crying "play with me" and I just have to stop waiting. He will lay on the ground making all sorts of noises that progressively get louder and louder. He'll roll over and then get stuck and start crying. So, I usually end up trying a new toy and trying to get something done again. However, by thet time, he's usually ready for a nap. He's a great napper...takes several a day. The only problem is...they're about 5 minutes long. seriously. But, once I see those little arms folded (which they usually are... must come from James' side) I start the playing process again. Well, actually, I'm a little selfish because I wake up every day, load Jackson in his jogging stroller (a steal of craig's list for only $50) and try to at least get an hour of exercise in. I used to be able to go outside, and Jackson stayed awake staring at everything we passed. Esepcially when the leaves were changing colors. However, now it's a little too cold and by the time we've gone around the little indoor track about 15 times, I usually look down, noticing he's extremely quiet and I realize that once again, I am the one doing all the work. But, once he falls asleep, I'm able to take him into the staff gym and he sleeps while I can lift again. I love the staff gym! It's me, my aunt, and a bunch of old men who just ride the bike. I never have to wait for a machine and it smells EXACTLY like westwood's old, crusty, weight room. By the time I'm done, Jackson's up and starving (of course) and we barely make it in home to eat, take a quick shower, and meet James for lunch. By the time I get back, it's time to put Jackson to sleep and start my usual 3 hours or so of work stuff. I'm always behind, but I am slowly learning that if I was ever caught up, I'd probably get bored. Now, at least I don't have to wait! Now, that brings me to work, no one seems to know what I do when I'm "working". So, take today, I had cleaning inspections for 5 apartments, got all the housing contract release forms ready for my 75 guys that are leaving on missions, and worked on evaluations for my 3 RA's. I am also in the middle of hiring a new male RA for next semester and reviewing applications, interviews, etc. That, and I'm still trying to arrange some counseling appointments and prepare to plan some weeknight activities. After about 3 hours, it's time to feed Jackson again only now, he likes REAL food. Preferably, anything but milk. I was going to hold off on the solids another month until I noticed he was already eating everything (the neighbor's cheerios at church, a whole half graham cracker the babysitter fed him, bits of my food off my plate, etc.) and so, he became an even HAPPIER boy. He sleeps better, and has lots more energy. In fact, I even had to retire the swing. He loved his swing until the same thing happened three times and I couldn't take the risk of it happening again. He gets too excited (and since he is so close to almost sitting up) when he sees those toys in front of him, he lunges forward. The swing, already moving forward, can't quite handle the new pressure and therefore, Jackson's head becomes stuck and the grunting begins. I was too afraid that he would strangle himself and we packed the swing away.

By that time, James is usually home and we head off for anothe dinner at the cannon center (which still hasn't gotten old) and then I go back to finishing a few more work things while James does homework. James sure has been so busy this semester but he handles it well. He was called as assistant scoutmaster and went on the first campout last weekend. He still had two tests to take that weekend and when he actually got a chance to sit down and study, I found him totally engrossed in his homework. Poor guy just wears himself out sometimes. But, he still finds time to
exercise and play intramurals. I LOVE when James plays intramurals. He comes home SO much happier and actually has a lot mroe energy (especially when they win). His flag football team has actually made it pretty far this season. ALready their in the elite 8 and tonight they play to try and make it to the top 4. James is the quarterback and even though he's never played that position before, people compliment him every game about how good he really is. And honestly, sometimes it really does surprise me too about how accurate his throws are.
Despite everything else, we've enjoyed a great family reunion with my mom's side of the family.

James especially enjoyed the spaghetti and meatballs

I've had yet another WONDERFUL birthday... with the all-time best gift I've almost ever gotten... my bodybugg. I'm already in love with it and it almost never leaves my arm. James gets a kick out any time it beeps to tell me I've reached my goals. "What's it say now, Shawnne?" he always asks and then he always gives me a compliment. It may be mental, but it sure is helping me get healthier! Well, the point is, we've had a lot going on! And now, I'm off to finish my cinnamon rolls for my cousins bridal shower tomorrow!

Oquirrh Mtn Temple Open House

James' uncle David was the architect for the Oquirrh Mtn temple. We got a special tour and I think I finally realizes just how much work and effort goes into making a temple. We had a huge Bennion family picture outside. I think Heavenly Father blessed us for going that day because while touring the temple, I got THE phone call that I could be interviewed for the Hall Advisor job!

First smiles!

Jackson started smiling at 4 weeks.... Even in the middle of night when I walk over to pick him up, he smiles so big. It amazes me that he can be so happy ALL the time. I guess James was like that as a baby. Kathleen says she can't ever remember a time he didn't wake up happy. So far, Jackson's on the same pattern!

Jackson's Baby Blessing

We blessed Jackson at James' parents house in Mesa on July 19. Wilford was able to preside and we had both families all there which was nice. James thought he would be nervous but he did such a good job and claimed he really felt like a father. Jackson had all his uncles, grandpa's (minus gr-grandpa bennnion) and even Adam Brown in the circle. He is sure lucky to have such great men as examples. Here's some of the main points...

> faith to rely on your Heavenly Father and in the Atonement of His Son, Jesus Christ.
> As the world continues to decrease in righteousness, you will increase in righteousness.
> you will not waiver
> wisdom to follow the example of good and righteous people around you
> gift of discernment
> understanding of gospel doctrine
> mind will be alert and that you will constantly know right from wrong
> the desire and power to always choose the right.
> while others around look to satisfy themselves, the Holy Ghost will invite you to look outside of yourself to the needs of others.
> to be an example to your younger siblings.
> serve a mission
> the gift of forgiveness to forgive your parents their faults and forgive others

We sure love our little guy and can't believe how fast he grows up!

A much needed trip to AZ

We sure loved taking the baby down to AZ. My family took one look at my wardrobe and off we went to Mesa Thrift. Somehow the maternity clothes just weren't cutting it any more. Thankfully, I was able to get a few new clothes to help me make it through my "transitional" stage. (Which strangely, I'm still in 3 months later!)

We spent some quality time at the cabin too saying goodbye to the family. James' parents, and Sam and Spencer, left for the Dominican Republic a few weeks ago. They will live there for the next 6 years with an occasional trip home in the summer and conference. We sure are already looking forward to it! I've been so impressed with James' ability to say goodbye. I struggle even just leaving AZ from vacation, but somehow, he always sees the positive.

James has a new girlfriend

And NO, it's not clayt....

While at the Bennion Family reunion, they took the kids around on a 'ropes course' with little learning/problem solving type activities. The whole thing was run by senior missionaries. I think they were used to teenage girls, and having James and his brother Clayton around seemed way too rambunctious. This sweet little lady kept having to use her "firm voice" to tell James and Clayt to "back off", "get behind the line", "slow down", "stop", etc. However, she also found several moments to make herself James' "spotter"... she claimed she was keeping him from falling..... It didn't take too long before all the touching was making James uncomfortable...

They also had a huge cable swing that everyone loved. I think my favorite was my mother-in-law. However, James' yelling was heard by everyone at the ranch.

Saying goodbye

July also meant saying goodbye to Uncle Matt. He was set apart then spent the night before entering the MTC at our house, with James as his companion. I told James it must stink as a missionary to have your companion go sleep in another room with his WIFE. But, we sure had a fun day with him and I was sad to see him go. The little host Elders that escort the new missionaries into the MTC told Matt to go give his mom one last hug (referring to me). I'm not sure how I felt about that....

Andersen Thunder Thighs

We sure had a good time at the freedom festival. We went with Becca and John and their kids to the parade. It took me waking up 2 hours before time to actually make it to the parade by 8. Then, it started raining, and doing my hair wasn't even worth it! But, Jackson slept through the entire thing. Sirens and all. I laugh when I see this picture. For some reason, when I look at our legs we look distorted... oh well, James refers to big thighs as AT&T'S.... Andersen thunder thighs....maybe their family is rubbing off on me!

Thank you to all my helpers!!

He sure loves his daddy!

I love this picture! You have to look really close, but at least James spent his first father's day doing what he loves most.... Jackson didn't mind that he couldn't even see Bronco one bit!

everyone needs a JaNae

For good meals, GREAT parties, babysitting, and even a workout partner...I reccomend JaNae... notice she can even wear the white capsleeve shirt by itself!

Not just a reflex...

Believe it or not, Jackson moves his hands up like this all the time. At first I just thought it was the falling reflex, but James is SURE he is preparing for basketball already. He loves to sit in the bathtub and after 45 minutes, it's usually me who's tired of just kneeling there while he looks around. He also loves to poop in the bathtub, which allows for easy wiping! I think it has happened almost everytime so far!

already growing up!

Yesterday we got all dressed up for little Andrew's 4th birthday party. James had bought him his first polo shirt the day we found out we were having a boy. Jackson was sure wide awake and had fun being held by so many people.

When 2 becomes 3

Well, it is hard to believe it's already been almost 3 weeks. But, little Jackson James was born on June 9, 2009 at 4:25 in the afternoon. He weighed 7 lbs and 1 oz and is already over 8 pounds. When you put it in terms of only weighing 7 pounds, gaining one is a huge accomplishment for him! He sure is a good baby and I have no room to complain! Last night he slept for 7 hours straight and our worst night still doesn't even compare to what some people have to go through. He still is so skinny with wrinkles, but a double chin is coming on fast!

His little vibrating chair is already one of his best friends. I am kind of creeped out by the fact that every time he lays in it, he puts his hands just like this. People always comment on how early he is folding his arms! I guess James' spirituality is already rubbing off!

Conseal Concepts, LLC.

James and his brother Clayton have sure spent a lot of time working on their new business. Not only do they have official business cards, the legal work done, and phone calls for bids a couple times a week, but James has almost finished their first job. Alfred, the Hollywood movie production designer, has been visiting his second home in the countryside of Spanish Fork. In preparation for his Hollywood friends' party (next Wed), he needed James to acid stain his laundry room! James could not be more thrilled...not only does he think this is his first REAL job, but he also feels this may be his chance to finally become the sports star on some movie! (his other not-so-secret passion). I came home from helping Norene the other day and found James "setting up his office" (in our front room none-the-less).

Before and after shots will come soon! (in the mean time, you can check out their local listings on KSL, craigslist, or email consealconcepts@gmail.com)

Why everyone needs a mother.

With the body bug, you too can be FIT and FULL OF ENERGY!

Bahama Mama's

Here you will see THE BAHAMA MAMA hot-dog, compliments of Tommie Matthews and Maverick's Gas station. Featured on the top left of the grill is the "jalapeno cheese" dog. Smack dab in the middle is THE BAHAMA MAMA in comparison with your average jumbo dog.
Definitely an accomplishment, James won the family eating contest this past memorial day. He successfully downed SIX BAHAMA MAMA'S (with buns and condiments). He walked away with a very full belly, over 6 dollars in prize money, and a desire to never eat more than 6 again. That's my man.

why you should never leave church early....

I had just barely made it through sacrament meeting when I decided I couldn't take it anymore. Something about sweat dripping out of every pore, continual dizziness, and shall we say "pressure down there" kind of made me want to go home! As we were leaving, I was informed by the nice primary lady that I had stuff dripping all down my legs. (Always nice to have others point that out! ) We got in the car and and I was trying to recline my seat while James was hoping for my contractions! (The baby just can't come soon enough) Before we knew it, we were hit. Somehow the other guy didn't see us, we didn't see him, and he got us! He was a little mad and kept cussing at James. Although he did offer me a cushion to sit on, it took an hour to get everything taken care of. However, when you get hit in the church parking lot, and when your excuse for leaving is you have "pressure and leakage", all the old people will flock to you! So, seeing as everyone thinks I have had my baby... I've been offered meals already! I tried taking up the offers, but when they see I'm still pregnant.... they refuse! Even though we spent the rest of the day in the hospital checking out my apparent leakage and pressure.... I was sent home STILL pregnant! The good news is, we get to drive the PT CRUISER for our rental! James is embarrassed to be seen in the death wagon, but sure is enjoying his satellite radio!

pregnancy affects us all....

Who says pregnancy only affects the wife? James has had his fair share as well.... I couldn't help but convince him we might need to try a bigger shirt.....

The evolution of laptops

I think this picture perfectly describes how connected our family is to the world.... they come to Utah and just can't leave it alone! I can't figure out why James didn't quite just squeeze into the spot next to my Dad... but oh well!

Every pregnant lady needs to go dancing....

There is nothing like a BYU dance.... much less when you're pregnant. Poor James felt extremely out of place when they asked all couples to "waltz" or "jitterbug". We decided we'll never ask Ray to come to a dance with us. We were completely unwaware he was a ballroom dancer! We try not to compare...but Abbi is only one week farther along than me.... we'll blame her size on the black dress. I obviously need to eliminate printed dresses from my wardrobe!
